Activities for this Trimester

Hello Everyone!

Greetings from Law Soc :D

So what has dominated the headlines the last couple of months? the CWG scam, the 2G spectrum issue, the Nira Radia tapes, the Antrix-Devas scam, Hasan Ali, P. J. Thomas????

Have you wondered the common thread running through these apparently isolated incidents? Yes, you guessed it right: CORRUPTION!!

We have all been reading about this issue in one form or another- corruption, good governance, public policy etc. But what do we really know about the subject (besides the information the TOI provides!) Issues of corruption and good governance are of particular relevance in the contemporary times, highlighted by the recent events. The scale of the phenomena is such that demands have been raised for the enactment of specific anti-corruption laws (Lok Pal Bill). In this context, the Law and Society Committee aims to look at certain issues which have been identified keeping in mind the need to come up with a solution to the problem. We are thus proud to present to you a host of activities themed around Corruption and Good Governance

We have the following extremely interesting, engaging and fun activities lined up for you this trimester

1. Movie and documentary screenings for movies which will be notified soon

2. A LawSoc Lecture series with eminent panelists and speakers

3. A Panel on Judicial Accountability which will discuss, inter alia, the recently tabled Judicial Accountability Bill- learn what is wrong with the recently tabled bill which has attracted all round criticism from Justice (Retd) A.P Shah, Prashant Bhushan, Ashok Desai etc. If you are interested, you can also be part of these legislative analysis briefs

4. A series of workshops on the RTI and Wikileaks- learn how to file your own RTIs from experts

5. Developing Socio Legal Notes on corruption and good governance- This is an interactive space (on our blog) where your contributions are invited and will be welcome:) You can write on any contemporary issue of their choice having a law and society interface

So enough talking, start working!

We will keep you updated over the next few weeks regarding the date and time of the scheduled activities. Please do mail us, if you have any other suggestions.

Looking forward to your participation
